Preparations

We really should be waiting, but it's the hardest part.  We are boxing up our stuff in preparation for the upcoming move.

We do a lot of shipping through the USPS.  Did you know you can get free boxes from them?  Yes, FREE!  Perfect short term moving boxes.  Nobody can complain they are to heavy.

Goodwill will love this stuff!

I spent most of the day selling my cd collection.  I used my iphone to scan barcodes, then emailed them to the computer.  Imputed the codes into a couple online places to sell cd's.

Now, I need to ship them out, wait for payment, and wait for the moving to commence.   I'm sure more stuff will be packed tomorrow.

Sunrise this morning

I dropped Scott off hella early to fly out to Las Vegas to meet a few friends for a few days of fun. When I got back I picked up the dog and headed to the park with my camera to get a few shots of the sunrise. However it was cold and I left too early so I did not stay all the way till the sun actually came up but I got a few fun shots none the less. So far looks to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

I hope you enjoy yours

Upcoming changes at the Flat

So many things going on here so I thought I would sit down for a second to tell you all about them. Scott and I are going to be moving from the second story apartment here to the one downstairs closer to Scott's studio. This will also give me my own whole print shop space so it will be an exciting and busy time for us in the next month or two.

We already acquired a new renter who is a good friend so that is a load off.

When we move the upstairs apartment will be vacant for about two to three weeks while we redo the floors, clean, paint and all those fun things about refreshing an old place. We were thinking for fun that what we might do while the apartment is empty would be to stage a 3 day show there. The last weekend of the month we are thinking about leaving the apartment open and turning the whole thing into a gallery for us not only to play with the idea of installations but to be able to photograph a lot of our things. We will use this time also as an open house / art sale for those interested or to anyone curious that just wants to check it out.

Someone had asked us if we would include other local artists and we are open to it just unsure how to go about it and pull it all together but if this sounds like something fun you might like to jump into, contact us.

We will keep you updated when we know more.

Daryl, Daryl, and Daryl are the best V-Day Gift

On the way home from breakfast, I learned that the plan for my V-Day gift involved something fishy.  This of course led to more fishyness.  On the way home from the Pet Store, Carolyn asked how I would name the three new fish.  It didn't seem right to agonize over getting the right name for each fish, trying to remember three names, so Daryl, Daryl, and Daryl are settling into their new home.  White Mountain Minnows.  Yep, I chose minnows.  I feel loved!

Started out in the bathroom, but we moved it to my desk.

Mini rant -
I know William Shatner and Carrie Fisher currently have a pissing match going on what is better, Star Trek or Star Wars. I personally think this is stupid, Both ment a great deal to me in my early life and picking a tv show over a movie series is apples and oranges. In my world there is enough love for both.

How to build a cheap panel for painting

3/16" Masonite, Lowe's is the place to get it cheap.  Is it archival, no.  Does it work, yes.  It will yellow over time, but prime the crap out of it, and you'll be fine.  Backed with 3/4" MDF.

Glue is your friend.  The MDF will guzzle the glue, so use plenty.

3/4" MDF ripped to your preference,  the smaller the size, the more risk of bad results.  The MDF is a cheap, and will split very easily.  This cut was not made free hand, that would be bad.  Be safe with a table saw.

So, you have a masonite top, nailed to a basic box frame on the back.  Glue is your friend in this step.
The MDF gets drunk on glue, so make sure it gets plenty.   Also, make sure you have beer in the shop fridge, you deserve one at this point.

4" x 5" Panels

8" x 10" Panels

Now all you need to do is puddy some flaws, give it a little sanding, prime it, and off to production.  Whether a Scott Krichau character study, or an Original "Wenchkin" Painting, these panels are awesome.

Update 2-11-2012

Carolyn is sanding all the edges of the panels.  The reason one should break the edge is to make the panel more stable.  This task is super boring and taxing, but important.  It helps keep the MDF from chipping and ruining the panel.  The sanding helps ensure the longevity of the panel.

Priming to come this afternoon, pics when the next step happens
