The first of the weekly updates.

So Scott and I talked and decided we really wanted to start actively blogging and the best way for us to do that is going to be for us to make a schedule. So we sat down and came up with a new weekly schedule.

Starting today you can look for
New coloring pages on Tuesdays
Food Porn ala Scott on  Thursday
Shop Tips
on Saturday
and Sundays I will be doing a week in review
showing you all the fun stuff we did over the past week as well as newly listed items.

We are in the process of dumping everything into one store over the next week and simply calling it Yucca Flats to keep everything the same and not have two shops. We are now listing new items on Sundays in Scott's shop that will be converted to Yucca Flats so all these links will still remain valid only the name of the shop will change. All of the tanks shown below were listed today right here.

We have also been somewhat unintentionally gardening. The ladies across the street gave us pepper and eggplant seedlings so I kept them alive. They are finally starting to flower and the whole thing is making Scott and I start seriously thinking about making a more substantial garden next year. we will never get fully self sustainable but we do have plans to make our over version of a bottle tower and try to grow as many vegetables as we can do in containers in our climate for next year. For this year we are just going to let the peppers and eggplant grow and see what happens. If all goes well we should have enough peppers and eggplant for our whole little compound of people here. But for now we can not jump the gun too much but just wait, water and watch.

Other things you might have missed this week,
the only non muerto coloring page I have ever posted here

and a two part showing each half of the work Scott and I do for the recycled tank project
my half
and
his half

It has been a good week for us for the most part, we really can not complain too much.
We will be back next sunday to give you a rundown of what else happened here at Yucca flats. Till then,
Enjoy your evening or whenever this finds you.

Sparks and Good Times

Here's the Tank-O-Cutter geared up to makes some trash beautiful.  Gloves, Ear Plugs, Respirator, Nerd Goggles, Face Shield, and plenty of iced cold beer in the fridge for victory celebration.

People always love the spark shots.

Carolyn keeps making more and more intricate designs.  The new lampshade style is actually a lot of fun to cut out.

Sparks be a flying!  Beer opening soon.

Curious how the designs come about, click here to find out!

How Wenchie designs tanks for Scott to cut

People ask about the tanks all the time so I thought I would give a quick run down of how I go about designing them and making them ready for Scott to cut.
First off, most of this is knowing the skill set of the person you are working with. We had a talk about how small I could make lines and what is easier vs harder to cut out. There is also a massive thick seam that runs along the center of all of them that is the bane of my existence and the hardest part to work around.

So, I have a tank and I have an idea in mind. If it is a pattern I will usually start out my measuring and  cutting myself out a stencil just to keep it cleaner. The paper stencil shown here was the one used for the blue cloud tank. Most of the time however I am freehand drawing them. Now, I do not freehand draw perfectly every time so I have some water color kids markers I use for my initial design. After I finish and like it I go back over the whole thing with a sharpie. Then I spray it down with any spray cleaner, wipe it off and have a tank ready to go for Scott.

Now, every now and then I hit a tank like the orange one that I think scott may have issues seeing the lines. Since he is using a plasma torch and it requires wearing a welding helmet sometimes my lines are hard to see against the black text on the tank. So I grab a marker of a different color and sorta try to black out the sections to be removed to it is easier at a glance for him to tell my intentions.

And lastly, I usually just show each tank to him and talk to him about them before he gets going just to make sure we are on the same page. Currently we are waiting for new welding tips to come in the mail and when they do I will be uploading finished pictures of these pieces this weekend for the curious.

10k G+ fans celebration

Sometime while I slept I kicked over 10k fans on Google Plus. If you are there and do not have me but would like to, you can find my profile here. I thank everyone that joined me there as I have been using facebook less and less lately over my whole fiasco months ago. I love plus and to celebrate I am picking random people out of my circles there to draw that I have not drawn before. So if you would like a shot at a new avatar leave me a comment on my original post over there
or you can leave me one here but make sure I have your plus profile so I can alert you when I have uploaded it to my art page over there.
You can find Scott there as well.

I will pick a person a day all this week.
Thanks again to everyone who has joined me. I have very much enjoyed the time I have networked plus over the last year and am humbled so many people have come for my content.

I am adding a few of the muertos I have done in the past as an example of what I am talking about when I say I am picking a person to draw a day, it will be a black and white illustration of you skullified like these.

Rain, Planes and Lightning

Capturing a plane flying by is easy.
Catching lightning requires a little luck.
I caught two videos of it all, but the rain was the real bonus.

They were taken just a few minutes apart.
